My Story
artist
As a first-generation Australian from Italian culture, I create through the use of colour and shapes with manmade materials. It is a rewarding experience. I develop and manipulate ideas from what I encounter subjects, such as landscapes and figurative personas.
I attended the University of Wollongong to study an arts degree. At UOW, I honed my skills and knowledge of tones with charcoal and the journey with paints and hues became my translator. I developed a series of landscapes and charcoal drawings that depict scenarios with human characteristics.
I also studied Graphic Design and I worked as a Graphic Designer in the Art Department for many multimedia companies. I worked on many projects for the television Art Department, furthering my understanding and love for layout and composition.
In Houston, Texas I held an exhibition called ‘Layers of Memories’. In 2006 through The Great Frame UP, I used plywood, newfound wood, canvas, butcher paper, and glass. I wanted to reimagine these materials, which we throw away every day.
I presented in a joint exhibition called ‘Meet the Artists’ at the Butler Longhorn Museum in 2011, where I showcased my landscapes of Koorawatha, Australia. I painted these landscapes with oils on Canvas using my fingertips. Painting with my fingers allows me to connect to the surfaces and texture.
I experimented with mixed formatting on a series of oil paintings, such as my oil series ‘Stories of a Suitcase’. Mixing elements of colour and materials allowed the form and movement of my paintings, to strongly convey my storytelling journey.
In Western Australia, I created a series of coloured, textured charcoal drawings of animals. This series reflects the profound beauty of the West, and how gentle yet fierce it is.
With my take on representation and composition, I am beginning another series of work that is my interpretation of how I see the world.
